Hi everybody, Andrew here.
If you’re on this page, you might be thinking, wow, the nerve he has in actually listing the qualities that he is looking for in a client. The truth is, and I am happy to work with anybody that is interested in advancing their career or organization using the power of video… but!!
Here’s the deal. After about eleven years in the video production field, I have come to realize that working with a specific type of client gets me really pumped up. If you are camera shy, or not sure what to say on camera, don’t worry about that at all! Having no experience on camera is totally fine! The main thing that I am looking for are people who are at least willing to try speaking on camera, those who have opinions, have things to say, and are not afraid to lead in their respective fields.
If your attitude towards work is to just put in your hours, never miss a 4:59pm elevator, collect your cheque and make it home for dinner on time every day, that is great, (i’m not even knocking that) but I am looking for something else in a professional sense. I am looking for people that have another level to reach, or another gear that they are trying to tap into.
The type of client that I am looking for is actually excited and enthusiastic about the idea of making an impact in their field. They don’t view learning a new skill like speaking on camera as “annoying” but they look at it as an opportunity to learn a valuable skill that will serve them for the rest of their career.
Imagine being too afraid to go to a networking event, or if you go, you stand in the corner for five minutes and then leave before talking to anybody? Do you think that would help you?
Not addressing your audience using video is like the internet version of that. You are hiding behind the coat rack at the networking event, metaphorically speaking. All you have to do is show up, and you will look like a professional on camera speaker in no time.
